Devin Garrity focuses his practice in all areas of intellectual property law, including patent prosecution, preparation and litigation, as well as trademarks, and copyrights.
While trained as a mechanical engineer, Devin is experienced in a broad range of technologies, including software implemented satellite communications systems, cloud-based systems, blockchain platforms, business methods and medical devices. He has drafted patent applications for a variety of clients ranging from startups to large corporate clients.
Devin’s patent prosecution experience includes working closely with inventors to develop prosecution strategies, drafting patent applications, and portfolio management and maintenance at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. Devin has experience in trademark prosecution and enforcement in industries including retail store services, consumer products, and cosmetics. He also has experience with copyright registration of software related works.
Devin has been involved in several litigation matters and has assisted in all stages of disputes ranging from pre-suit analysis and investigation to appeals. His responsibilities range from developing litigation strategy, infringement analysis, document review and drafting dispositive motions. He also has experience litigating third-party patent proceedings at the Patent Trial and Appeal Board, which includes drafting petitions for
inter partes review and responses to petitions.
Prior to joining ARE Law, Devin was a judicial intern for two federal district court judges in the United States District Court, District of New Jersey. As an intern, he observed court proceedings, settlement conferences and trials, and gained experience drafting legal opinions and decisions on motions in federal court.
Devin received his Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering,
cum laude, from Northeastern University. He received his J.D. from Fordham University School of Law, where he was the Senior Notes and Articles Editor of the Fordham Intellectual Property, Media and Entertainment Law Journal.
